“Seeing comes before words. The child looks and recognizes before it can speak.”
(Chapter: To Abstract)
“Linear texts have only occupied their dominant position as bearers of critically important information for about four thousand years.”

My first question: Why do we use linear texts (instead of images) as bearers of critically important information?
|
Probably because text is more versatile (Is it really? In what way and why?).
Still most of us tend to lose interest when we read long texts, most people prefer looking at images, something that catches our eye.
These two sources made me realize that it is absolutely ridiculous that we use words (linear texts) to communicate. Like John Berger said,
So why do we still use words to communicate? Even when we have so many miscommunications? Wouldn't it be way more simple to come up with an idea so we can communicate through synthetic images?
I want to know more about what Vilém Flussers theory is. He said that
“... if we want to understand the world, it is not sufficient to describe it by words, it is necessary to calculate the world”

This quote honestly doesn't make any sense to me and that's exactly what triggers me. It makes me want to find out what he means even more. I want to eventually enforce Flusser's phrases, probably with some help from John Berger's theory. This way I try to make myself understand what I'm writing about. I also want to link the phrases with a work from Mark Wilson because I feel like there might be a connection between Vilém Flusser's vision and Mark Wilson's work.
